Abstract

This study aims to determine the economic sosial life of fish traders at Oeba fish
landing base in Kupang City and a factor that prompted the fish traders to move to the
Kupang city and why do they chose to trade fish in a job. This research uses descriptive
qualitative method is a method that produces descriptive data in the form of written words
and drawings, not numbers of people and observed behavior.
This study uses the basic research Survey with Descriptive research type. Selection of
respondents in this study was conducted with purposive sampling technique. Respondents in this
study are fish traders who sell fish at the Oeba Fish Landing Base. Data analysis techniques
in this study using interactive analysis model from Miles and Huberman with four components
of analysis that is data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion.
The results generally show that the social life of the average fish traders comes from Rote,
Sabu and Timor tribes. Most of the level of education owned by fish traders are universities,
high schools, junior and elementary schools. The socio-economic condition of fish traders in
Fish Landing Base is adequate. As workers in the informal sector, the state of their
homeowners' homeownership is made up of half a stone. High awareness of the importance
of health for survival, good relationships among fellow Fishermen although competition still
exists. Factors that encourage working as a fish trader, namely: dominated by their own
volition, and also does not require education or skills.
