Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Islamic legal perspective on the tradition of releasing the placenta into the sea among the Bajo people in Pantar District, Alor Regency. This tradition of releasing the placenta is a unique ritual and is a custom that is different from others, where the procession begins with washing the placenta until clean then with the next steps until the stage of releasing it into the sea. The method used in this study is a Qualitative Descriptive method with data collection techniques using Observation, Interviews and Documentation. Where this activity was carried out to describe completely and in depth about the social life and various conditions that occur in the Bajo Tribe community in Pantar District, Alor Regency as the subject of this study. This type of research is field research, namely research conducted directly in the field. The results of the study found that the tradition of releasing the placenta into the sea among the Bajo people in Pantar District, Alor Regency does not conflict with Islamic teachings. However, it is more advisable to bury it in accordance with Islamic teachings that emphasize respect for the human body.
