Abstract
This study aims to analyze the impact of multicultural education in shaping students tolerance as well as the supporting factors in its implementation at SMA Negeri 5 Kupang. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with purposive sampling. The subjects consisted of students, teachers, the principal, and extracurricular instructors. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that multicultural education has a positive impact on shaping students tolerance. First, it fosters social inclusivity reflected in the acceptance of religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity. Second, it reduces prejudice and discrimination through cross-identity interactions in classrooms and scouting activities. Third, it strengthens social cohesion by fostering solidarity, a sense of belonging, and cooperation among students. Fourth, it encourages active student participation in school social activities. The supporting factors include teachers strategies, inclusive school leadership, school regulations, extracurricular activities, and synergy with external programs. Thus, multicultural education at SMA Negeri 5 Kupang is proven effective in building an inclusive, harmonious, and resilient school culture against potential conflicts.
