GENDER BASED VIOLENCE IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA: A QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

This study investigates the causes, consequences, and preventive measures of gender-based violence (GBV) in Kwara State, guided by three research objectives addressed through a qualitative approach. The participants consisted of ten university lecturers from diverse fields in Ilorin, Kwara State, who were purposively selected. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The study found that the causes of GBV are complex and deeply rooted in cultural, social, economic, and political factors. The consequences affect individuals, families, and the broader community on multiple levels. To combat this pervasive issue, the study proposes a comprehensive set of localized preventive measures. These include community engagement, strengthening legal frameworks, economically empowering women, creating support systems, integrating GBV responses into healthcare services, educational initiatives, cultural reform, and ensuring adequate resource allocation by local governments.

The study investigates the role of health education within educational institutions, focusing on its impact on students' physical and psychological well-being, as well as its influence on the school environment. The research aims to assess how health education contributes to enhancing academic performance, fostering responsible environmental citizenship, and increasing health and environmental awareness among students. To achieve this, a field study was conducted employing an interactive methodology, including participant observation, data collection through questionnaires, and data analysis via content analysis techniques. Findings indicate that students possess limited health knowledge, which adversely affects their psychological and physical health and the overall school environment. Insufficient health awareness correlates with poor environmental practices, such as inadequate hygiene and widespread non-environmental behaviours. The study recommends that the Ministry of Education prioritise health education in strategic planning to cultivate a safe and conducive learning environment.

SOCIOTECH LEARNING ECOSYSTEM: STRENGTHENING STUDENTS' SOCIO-ECONOMIC RESILIENCE THROUGH COMMUNITY-BASED DIGITAL PLATFORM INNOVATION IN TOLITOLI

The socio-economic resilience of students in 3T regions such as Tolitoli Regency still faces significant challenges, particularly in utilizing technology as a learning tool. This study aims to develop a Sociotech Learning Ecosystem, a community-based digital learning platform designed to strengthen students' learning skills, digital literacy, and socio-economic support. The method used is a combination of the Borg and Gall Research and Development (R&D) model modified with a Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach. The research subjects include junior high school/high school students, teachers, school principals, parents/guardians, and community partners in Tolitoli Regency. Data was collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), then analyzed thematically. The research findings indicate that despite the availability of digital devices and internet access, challenges such as unstable connections, low digital literacy, and limited community engagement remain major issues. The developed model successfully integrates technology, contextual learning content, and active community involvement, thereby creating an adaptive and inclusive learning ecosystem. In conclusion, the Sociotech Learning Ecosystem offers a holistic solution that can be replicated in other regions facing similar challenges, while also supporting the equitable distribution of national education quality.

TEACHING MATERIALS IN SOCIOLOGY LEARNING FROM VARIOUS VARIABLES IN HIGH SCHOOL

This study aims to determine the presentation of Sociology teaching materials during the Covid-19 pandemic seen from various variables (gender, class, age, school location, and school status) in high school. The research uses a survey type quantitative approach. The population in this study were all high school students in Central Lombok district. The sampling technique was accidental sampling with a sample of 450. The data on the presentation of learning materials was collected with the help of google forms which had met the research requirements. All data were analyzed quantitatively using comparative analysis, namely non-parametric statistics, did not meet the analysis requirements. The results showed that the presentation of teaching materials tended to be contextual as seen in the indicators of facts, concepts, principles, and procedures during the Covid-19 pandemic, and there were differences in perceptions regarding the presentation of teaching materials from the variables of school location and school status while the variables of gender, age, and There are no differences in the class presentation of teaching materials during the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the presentation of teaching materials during the Covid-19 pandemic should consider geographical characteristics (gender, age, class, school location, school status) in instructional design interventions.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A TEACHING STRATEGY BASED ON THE PERKINS AND BLYTHE MODEL IN ACQUIRING BIOLOGICAL CONCEPTS AND SCIENTIFIC VALUES AMONG ELEVENTH GRADE SCIENTIFIC STUDENTS

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a teaching strategy based on the Perkins and Blythe model in acquiring biological concepts and developing scientific values among eleventh-grade scientific students. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental methodology with partial control design on a sample of 69 students deliberately selected from eleventh-grade students at Zakho Preparatory School for Boys for the academic year 2024-2025. The sample was randomly distributed into two groups: an experimental group consisting of 33 students who studied using the Perkins and Blythe model-based teaching strategy, and a control group consisting of 36 students who studied according to the traditional method. After ensuring equivalence across several variables, the researcher determined the scientific material for the first unit, which represents the first three chapters of the eleventh-grade biology textbook (Internal Balance and Transport, Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration). To verify the research objectives, the researcher prepared 24 actual lesson plans for each group, and developed a biological concepts acquisition test consisting of 30 questions in its final form, and adopted the scientific values scale prepared by Al-Mohtaseb (2018) consisting of 45 items distributed across 8 domains with both positive and negative items. After verifying validity and reliability indicators for the test items and scientific values scale, data were analyzed using the t-test for two independent samples. Results showed a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of students in the experimental and control groups on both the biological concepts acquisition test and the scientific values scale in favor of the experimental group. Based on the findings, the researcher made several recommendations and suggestions for future research studies.

This study aims to analyze the form and role of social capital in the management of the Pantai Bidadari tourist attraction by BUMDes Sepakat Sejahtera in Subik Village, Buay Pematang Ribu Ranau Tengah District, South OKU Regency. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using Robert Putnam's social capital theory which includes three main dimensions: trust, networks, and norms. The results of the study indicate that social capital plays an important role in building collaboration between managers, communities, and village governments. The form of trust is reflected through the involvement of local communities in managing and accepting village policies. Social networks are formed through mutual cooperation, socialization activities, and participation in youth organizations. Social norms develop through obedience to local rules in maintaining coastal sustainability. Social capital is a driving force in strengthening community participation and supporting the sustainability of tourism management. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening social capital as a strategy for empowering and developing sustainable community-based tourism.
